Most mortals have an inner voice that uses criticism, impatience, and disapproval to comment on who we are and what we do. It uses such phrases as “You should …” and “Why didn’t you …?” and mocks us with “What’s wrong with you?” and “How stupid was that?”
If you recognize that nagging voice and want to reduce its power, this short course may be for you. Drawing on mindfulness practice and voice dialogue, guided discussion and home assignments, you’ll learn ways to expose the Inner Critic for what it is: a voice among many and not the truth.
Guided by Peter Daishin Renner, EdD. Image credit. Peter‘s other courses for the Fall term can be found here.
This sounds like an awesome program Peter! We hope you will consider offering it again in January/winter season for those of us visiting from out of town.
Can’t see a link to webmail, so I want to make a comment here. Thank you, Peter, for the guided meditations that you have on your website. I listen one every night before dropping off to sleep. They have helped tremendously in solving my sleep problems. zzzzzz
This sounds like a course I could really benefit from. Is there any chance you would consider facilitating the course via GoToMeeting or any similar online meeting software for those of us who live a distance or cannot get out to the specific date?
Hi Ali Have been thinking about online teaching for some time. Shying away from the unknown technology, eh! Now that you’ve nudge me I‘ll investigate and report on a future post. Meanwhile, may your life go well.
Peter, I missed the Taming the Inner Critic course and would welcome it in an online format just in case I miss it the next time you offer it. Thank you for your ongoing meditation courses!
