Thank you, good friend

I offer deep bows of thanks for the waves of loving kindness sent my way on the 11th — and the days before and since. (For background, seehere andhere.) May beings everywhere derive boundless benefits from this conversation.

The following blessings are by John O’Donohue (1956-2008), Irish priest, poet, and mystic (in To Bless the Space Between Us: A Book of BlessingsDoubleday, 2008, p. 43).

May you be blessed with good friends,

And learn to be a good friend to yourself,

Journeying to that place in your soul where

There is love, warmth, and feeling.

May this change you.

May it transfigure what is negative, distant,

Or cold within your heart.

May you be brought into real passion, kindness,

And belonging.

May you treasure your friends,

May you be good to them, be there for them

And receive all the challenges, truth, and light you need.

May you never be isolated but know the embrace

Of your anam cara*.

(*an old Gaelic term for “soul friend”)

Two days later, the pain sensations returned with gale-force strength, determined to blast away my resolve to experience things as they are: moment by moment, impermanent, coming and going. &^%$#.

dear p, greetings from a frosty island this morning, with hopes that this finds you free from the pain this morning. May it be in the distance and only tap on your shoulder from time to time, just to remind you. nxx
